Welcome to contentdrivestraffic.com - an experiment in driving web traffic with content and not gimmicks.
Some people who come to me for help figuring out how to drive more traffic to their web sites do so with the anticipation of learning how to trick and manipulate search engines into sending them tons of visitors. I've always told these people that the best way to increase traffic to a web site is to have content people want. The purpose of this site is to demonstrate just that.
The budget for this experiment is $5.83 per month (1 Year's webhosting at $60.00 and I domain registered at $10.00) and personal time invested in site design (not much as you can tell) and adding the content.
Here are some highlights of how the experiment is going:
March 19, 2012 - First page added to contentdrivestraffic.com - The Real Meaning of MPH. Visits to the site that day - 32.
April 20, 2012 - First day with more than 100 visits to the site. In fact, it's the first day with more than 500 visits - 641 to be exact. There are a total of 14 pages on the site.
May 16, 2012 - First day with more than 1000 visits to the site - 1002. There are a total of 28 pages on the site.
June 10, 2012 - The experiment breaks even based on it's monthly budget. Income from ads surpasses the costs of the first 3 months of this site (excluding personal time invested). There are a total of 39 Pages on the site.
June 13, 2012 - First day with more than 1500 visits to the site - 1517. There are a total of 42 pages on the site.
June 24, 2012 - Up until now no more than one page a day has been added to the CDT site. We're removing that restriction to ramp things up and see what happens. There are a total of 52 pages on the site.
November 30, 2012 - In the first 6 months of the experment expenses are $44.98 (domain registration plus monthly hosting) and income from ads is $49.82. $4.84 is the return on time time invested.
December 8, 2012 - First day with more than 2000 visits to the site - 2443. There are a total of 71 pages on the site.
December 10, 2012 - First day with more than 2500 visits to the site - 2751. There are a total of 72 pages on the site.
February 14, 2012 - First day with more than 4000 visits to the site - 4451. There are a total of 73 pages on the site.
March 19, 2013 - In the first 12 months of the experiment there have been 164,903 visits, 203,257 page views. Expenses are $44.98 (domain registration plus monthly hosting) and income from ads is $167.27. $122.29 is the return on time time invested. There are a total of 75 pages on the site.
January 1, 2014 - After taking some time, today, to putter around looking at 404 errors on the site, I discovered that approximately 50 pages were missing! Upon further investigation it looks like these pages did not get moved over when I performed a software update back on September 16, 2013. Judging from the site's Google Analytics (which have been pretty flat for the past 6 months) the missing pages haven't had much of an affect on bringing traffic down, but since the nature of this experiment is to see if content drives traffic to a site, having 50 pages AWOL isn't going to help accomplish that now is it! With the missing pages restored there are now 131 pages on the site.
